MEEGAN - FOUNDER 

 

Always wanted to try my hand at crafts and DIY, I fell into soap-making out of necessity while running a safari lodge in the Lower Zambezi, Zambia. While trying to source affordable yet luxurious bath products for our guests, I turned to learning the craft of soap-making in order to provide a bespoke product for the lodge. When it came time to return to Australia, I dreamed of being able to start my own business to continue the journey.

My decision to use natural ingredients comes from a desire to reduce the synthetic chemicals in my daily life. Trying to strip things back to the ‘clean, slow way of life’ from the kitchen to the bathroom, it has become really important to me (and many others!) to know exactly what I am putting in or on my body.

The focus is on using simple ingredients, sourced from fair trade and organic suppliers wherever possible, no palm oil or micas, complemented by a beautiful array of botanicals, many of which are sourced from my own garden.

The inspiration for the scents and mood behind Cinnamon & Clove has slowly evolved over a number of years as I fell in love with the Moorish/Arabic architecture, décor and culture during my travels. The concept behind Cinnamon & Clove was actually born in Stonetown, Zanzibar – you’ll notice a nod to the inspiration behind the brand in the names of several of our products.

Each soap I make is a piece of art in itself – while I get to enjoy the ‘science’ side of the cold-process soap-making process, the real thrill comes when my creativity is allowed to run wild with the wide range of natural colourants and botanicals to complement the essentials oils in each bar. I hope you enjoy using your products as much as I have enjoyed creating them for you!
